Magenko Renewable (Ipoh) Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kawan Renergy Berhad, secured a 2 MWe biomass Renewable Energy Power Purchase Agreement (REPPA) from the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia in August 2026.
The proposed biomass power plant will primarily use bamboo chips as a renewable fuel source. Upon completion, it is expected to be Malaysia’s first biomass power plant of its kind to generate renewable electricity using bamboo chips as its main fuel.
The 2 MWe biomass REPPA represents an important milestone for Magenko Renewable and Kawan Renergy Berhad. It also reflects the Group’s ongoing commitment to developing practical and innovative renewable energy solutions in Malaysia.
By transforming bamboo biomass into renewable electricity, the project aims to promote the productive use of sustainable resources while reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuels. It will also contribute to Malaysia’s broader transition towards cleaner and more diversified energy generation.
